Introduction to Therapeutic Parenting
A 60 minute course for Parents and Professionals who wish to understand the difference between ‘standard’ parenting and ‘therapeutic’ parenting. This course is essential for anyone wishing to progress to other courses relating to P.A.C.E, Attachment, and Effects of Trauma.
You may have come across the term ‘therapeutic parenting’ when attending meetings. When we go out to deliver training we are often asked what the term actually means. This short course has been devised to give a thorough overview of what therapeutic parenting actually means and why we use that term. This course is designed to complement face-to-face training courses. We understand that online training is more accessible to parents with their busy lives and this course gives them a good grounding in attachment and therapeutic parenting prior to or alongside face-to-face training.
• To look at the difference between ‘standard’ parenting and ‘therapeutic’ parenting.
• To understand why the children we care for need therapeutic parenting.
Strengthening Connections – This course explains why children with AD do this, how it makes you feel, and gives practical strategies to reduce the behaviour, while making you feel better and more connected. To equip parents and professionals with the skills and knowledge to understand why we need to therapeutically parent children who have suffered early life trauma and as a result have attachment difficulties, FASD, and other associated conditions.
To enable parents and supporting professionals to implement and support practical therapeutic parenting behaviour management strategies, when working with children with attachment difficulties.
To help parents and supporting professionals to avoid other unhelpful methods of parenting.
The Diploma in Therapeutic Parenting is an unregulated qualification which is accredited with the Awarding Body NCFE. It is aimed at parents who are caring for children who have experienced developmental trauma. It is also aimed at supporting professionals who are working with families in order to support them, which can be used as evidence for Continual Professional Development (CPD).
The course is delivered online, with the option of full time (1 year) or part time (2 years) study. To achieve the Diploma learners will complete 400 guided learning hours through our online learning platform, which comprises of video-based tuition and knowledge checks throughout, to enable learners to complete the end of unit assessments. Learners will be provided with tutor support as well as peer supported learning through a forum where there is the opportunity to access online training and online assessment workshops to support their learning. A handbook, including all relevant information, will also be provided at the start of the course.
The Diploma in Therapeutic Parenting is made up of 10 units altogether, this comprises of 7 compulsory units and in addition a choice of 3 option units. Learners will be required to complete a total of 10 units of study.
